Viking Territory: Introducing the 2021 Viking Training Team
The Minnesota Vikings welcome 16 players to the 2021 practice squad. Think of this as a one-stop-shop to identify these players.
Here is the Vikings 2021 training squad, in pictures:
The offensive line is the Vikings’ biggest weak spot on the 2021 depth map – surprise, surprise – and Bailey waits behind the scenes if injuries occur. He is a keeper by trade and is now the replacement for Oli Udoh, Ezra Cleveland and Wyatt Davis.
Head Coach Mike Zimmer loves defensive backs, so Dorn will join the practice squad in 2021. Four other safeties were on the active roster: Harrison Smith, Xavier Woods, Camryn Bynum and Josh Metellus.
Much like Zack Bailey, Hinton is a deep emergency offensive line. He was drafted in the 7th round of Washburn’s 2020 NFL Draft.
Mannion isn’t super-exciting, but it’s anti-Browning. He briefly spent time with the Seattle Seahawks during the offseason, returning to Minnesota for reserve duty – this time on the practice squad. Mannion will likely act as QB3 instead of QB2 in 2021.
Here’s the man who scored the six-pick against the Chiefs in the final preseason game. This feat obviously earned him an extended stay with the Vikings.
Rose achieved Kyle Sloter status for the preseason annals of Viking history. Why? Because he was the only Viking to score an offensive touchdown in the 2021 preseason. If something happens to Dalvin Cook or Alexander Mattison, Rose will see time for the regular season.
Willekes was a member of the 2020 Vikings – but then Danielle Hunter, Everson Griffen and Stephen Weatherly all returned to the active roster, nominating the second-year defensive end for the practice squad assignment.
