Stay at the opera “Madama Butterfly” in Langham
All Hong Kong people know that life in our crazy and hectic city would not be bearable without an occasional getaway. That’s why we bring you “Staycation Suite”, where we review some of the finest hotel suites in Hong Kong and Macau. Evaluated by the quality of the accommodation, F&B, and the perks we get – not to mention the pure ‘wow’ factor – our column brings you in-depth advice on where to spend your money when it comes to take a well-deserved R&R.
Situated in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui, The Langham is a mecca for lifestyle and culture lovers. Surrounded by the flagship stores of the most famous luxury brands in the world, the illustrious hotel also aims to enrich the experience of its customers by offering stay packages that stimulate the soul.
‘Madame Butterfly’ stay package
Widely regarded as that of Puccini the most melodious opera, Madame Papillon is an amalgamation of oriental culture and traditional western opera. For a limited time only, this stay package includes two tickets for Madame Papillon maintained at Hong Kong Cultural Center, located a five minute walk from the Langham.
The other inclusions of the package include a Madame Papillon– an inspirational cocktail for two, a daily breakfast for two and a $ 400 meal credit. The meal credit can be used at Langham restaurants or in the room. This offer is valid for bookings until September 28 for stays between October 6 – 10.
Tell us more about the room you stayed in.
The Harmony Suite is a whimsical and restorative haven, featuring lightly padded panels in silky pale hues and satin brushed metal decor. This one bedroom, two bathroom suite has a spacious living room and adjacent dining area with enough space to comfortably seat a table for six.
The highlight of the suite is truly the expansive marble master bathroom, with a large tub in the center. Plus, also being fully equipped with a powerful GHD console, The Langham passed my hairdryer test with flying colors.
Located a stone’s throw away is The Langham Club lounge where, if you’re staying in a suite or more of the upgraded room options, you’ll have access to free afternoon tea and evening cocktails and canapes.
We are hungry. What is on the menu?
With six dining options, cooks will be spoiled for choice at The Langham. We weren’t able to participate in all of them, but here are a few of our favorites:
Court of palm trees
Located next to the lobby, Court of palm trees pays homage to its heritage with a bespoke take on the British Afternoon Tea tradition, special themed menus rotating regularly. Their selections are always carefully prepared with traditional pastry options, but our favorites will always be their classic scones.
Yes, another court – but very different. This three Michelin star restaurant holds their coveted status since 2009, a proud reflection of its authentic Cantonese culinary masterpieces. Some of their signature dishes include their Baked stuffed crab shell with crab meat and onion and Stir-fried Japanese Wagyu beef with green vegetables. A must-see destination for foodies.
Boston seafood and grilled meats
It must be the mood; the authentic and chic shipyard space that struts with all the weight of a seasoned hedonist. Artisanal dry-aged beef? To verify. Sustainable seafood? To verify. There is a passion for food here that translates into every dish, every glass of wine. More than the fare, however, is the absolute hospitality shown by the team – an intuitive and knowledgeable crew who guessed what we needed before even raising a hand.
Anyway, is it worth splurging?
Based on the dining options alone, this is already a resounding yes. While we’re at it, add the excellent service from the Customer Relations and F&B teams to complete this approval. While we didn’t have a chance to take a look at the rooftop pool – it was raining all week – we know with good authority that this is a lovely little sanctuary in the middle of the cityscape.
Given their current package inclusions to promote more cultural activities, we’re all set for the timeless Langham.
