Popular vacation destinations for Britons like Spain, Portugal and France aren’t as hot as they are during the summer months.

For those looking to take advantage of the real October rays, you may need to travel a little further to get guaranteed sun this fall.

Fortunately for vacationers, there are many beautiful seaside resorts within hours of London. So if you have some vacation to take, or a little extra cash to spend, why not consider relaxing and resting by the sea?

Tenerife

Tenerife is the largest of the Spanish Canary Islands, off the coast of West Africa.

Its horizon is dominated by Mount Teide, a dormant volcano which is the highest peak in Spain.

The island has many beaches, with sand ranging from yellow to black, and resort areas like Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas.

There are two flights a day from London Heathrow to Tenerife lasting four hours and 30 minutes.

If you take the kids along or still like a bit of adventure, the world-famous Siam Park water park has something for everyone, and there’s a zoo nearby as well.

For nightlife, Las Americas is the place to be, with dozens of pubs, clubs and bars to enjoy.

Temperatures in October in Tenerife are always what most people consider suitable for the beach.

The days are warm and sunny, but some nights towards the end of the month you may need to pack a sweater.

Malta

With beautiful golden sand beaches, boat trips and hundreds of authentic restaurants and bars, the island nation of Malta is a traveler’s dream for those seeking a more peaceful getaway,

Historians can take in the breathtaking views of churches and cathedrals, while there are dozens of beach hotels to choose from.

For visitors who want a mix of warm temperatures and less dense crowds, October is considered the best time to visit Malta.

About 1.6 million tourists visit Malta each year. In fact, the country sees three times as many tourists as residents.

There is one flight per day from London Gatwick to Malta, with a journey time of three hours and 15 minutes. Temperatures this month will reach incredible highs of 26 degrees Celsius.

Egypt

The resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh on the Red Sea is renowned for its sheltered sandy beaches, clear waters and coral reefs.

Naama Bay, with a palm-lined promenade, is full of bars and restaurants and is known to be safe for tourists.

The nearby Ras Muhammad National Park is a popular hotspot for scuba diving and snorkelling, with marine life around Shark and Yolanda Reefs. It is even possible to dive into an abandoned wreck at the bottom of the sea.

Days are generally warm with warm evenings, so visitors should bring light and cool clothing. The average daily maximum temperature is 33 degrees Celsius, so pack plenty of your best factor 50.

There is one direct flight a day from London Heathrow to Cairo, the Egyptian capital – and you can get there in under five hours.

Turkey

Turkey has some of the best beaches in Europe, especially along the turquoise coast between Bodrum and Alanya in the southwest of the country.

With the splendid Aegean and Mediterranean seas that run along the west and southwest coasts, Turkey has no shortage of beautiful beaches.

Turkey is said to be too hot during the summer months, so it is best to visit in October when the crowds will be less dense and the weather will be warm enough to explore during the day.

With temperatures peaking at around 28 degrees Celsius at the start of the month and 24 degrees at the end, this is the perfect temperature for relaxing by the pool or by the sea with a book, a beer or a cocktail in hand.

There are also a number of water parks in the southwest of the country, including Aqua Dream Water Park and Tortuga Pirate Island.

There are several flights to different parts of Turkey each day departing from Heathrow and Gatwick airports with estimated journey times of just under five hours.

Cyprus

The island nation of Cyprus looks beautiful in October. With the perfect mix of warm weather, great food, culture, and nightlife, there is plenty to offer for people of all ages.

Temperatures remain fairly warm, especially in Paphos, with highs of around 27 degrees Celsius and 10 hours of sunshine.

The sea temperature is still warm in October as well, making it a perfect month for water sports including swimming, diving and snorkelling. Or if you are feeling brave, jet ski.

There is something for every budget, from budget hotels to luxury five-star resorts. For family fun, there are water parks at Aqua Dream Water Park and Tortuga Pirate Island. And you can even ride a donkey.
